The 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) took place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from 11 to 15 November, 2024. Dongfang Electronics Corporation was invited to multiple side events of COP29 China Pavilion, including the International Zero-Carbon Island Construction and Green Low-Carbon Cooperation Negotiation Conference, the Launch Conference of the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative, the China Power Sector Green Low-Carbon Development Side Conference, and the South-South Cooperation Forum, sharing the company's achievements and experience in the "green low-carbon and digitalization" industries and zero-carbon island construction, etc. Fang Zhengji, head of Dongfang Electronics Corporation, led a team to Baku for the Conference.
1.Attended the International Zero-Carbon Island Construction and Green Low-Carbon Cooperation Negotiation Conference
On 11 November, Wen Nuan, Vice Governor of Shandong Province, and Thoriq Ibrahim, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy of Maldives, held an International Zero-Carbon Island Construction and Green Low-Carbon Cooperation Negotiation Conference. Zhang Zhixin, Vice-Mayor of Yantai City, and others attended the event.
In recent years, Maldives has made every effort to drive clean energy transition. The cooperation between Yantai and Maldives mainly focuses on the energy sector. Dongfang Electronics Corporation has undertaken the first smart metering of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) general contracting project in Maldives, achieving efficient energy distribution and utilization through digital grid management and big data technology; in the field of new energy solar PV, the company vigorously promotes cooperation with Maldives to help reduce Maldives’ dependence on fossil fuels and improve its energy self-sufficiency rate.
2.Attended the Launch Conference of the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative as a Co-InitiatorOn 13 November, Yantai City took the lead in launching the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Initiative on the China Pavilion of the Conference. Zheng Deyan, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Yantai, on behalf of 32 co- initiating units, launched a cooperation initiative to the world, exploring the establishment of the world's first international organization dedicated to zero-carbon islands- the International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Organization, to contribute to both sustainable development of islands and global climate campaigns.
On 15 November, Zheng Deyan delivered a keynote speech titled "Establishing an International Zero- Carbon Island Cooperation Organization · Building a Global Island Interconnection and Mutual Assistance Bridge" at the workshop of the "High-Level Forum of South-South Cooperation in Climate Change”, introducing in detail the background, ideas, and areas of cooperation for the establishment of the "International Zero-Carbon Island Cooperation Organization".
As a co-initiator, Dongfang Electronics Cooperation attended the on-site launch conference and workshop, actively responding to the cooperation initiative, sharing the experience and planning of zero-carbon island construction, exchanging the company’s layout of green and low-carbon industry. The company aims to fully leverage its advantages in technical services and international operations, and contribute more "oriental wisdom" to the construction of the international zero-carbon islands.
3.Attended the China Power Sector Green Low-Carbon Development Side Conference
On 14 November, Dongfang Electronics Corporation attended the China Power Sector Green Low-Carbon Development Side Conference of the COP29 China Pavilion, holding an in-depth and extensive discussion with guests on new power systems, new energy and other topics. The company introduced its experience in driving green energy transition in the power sector in recent years and reached preliminary consensus with partners including China Electricity Council, organizer of the Side Conference, on strengthening cooperation in the future.
4.Practice the Concept of Green and Sustainable Development, and Strengthen International Cooperation
During the Conference, Fang Zhengji and his delegation held extensive exchanges with clients such as the President of Power Azerbaijan, Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy of Maldives, and Power Uzbekistan, introducing the layout and advantages of Dongfang Electronics Corporation in the fields of smart grid and smart energy. They also conducted in-depth discussions on new energy fields such as PV solar, wind power, and energy storage, as well as jointly opened up prospects for cooperation.
